ORIGEM

1995. Rio de Janeiro.

Iagor Peres (Rio de Janeiro, 1995) is a Brazilian artist who lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. His practice unfolds primarily through sculpture and installation, bringing together investigations into materiality, space, and perception.

Peres’s work is guided by a desire to transform the notion of the thing through processes of recategorizing matter. His works activate shifts between form, function, and presence, proposing relationships in which materials are no longer merely support, but become fields of tension, memory, and imagination.

Working across different languages, the artist creates situations in which the exhibition space becomes an integral part of the work itself. His sculptures and installations operate through contrast, suspension, and reorganization, generating experiences that resist fixed readings and invite viewers to reconsider the meanings attributed to objects and bodies. This approach also resonates with his earlier background in dance and theater, which expands the performative and relational dimensions of his research.

Iagor Peres’s practice is situated within a contemporary field attuned to the symbolic and political potential of materiality. By challenging established categories and reconfiguring everyday elements, the artist develops works that expand the boundaries between sculpture, installation, and sensory experience. In 2023, he was an awarded artist of the PIPA Prize.
