ORIGIN
Guarulhos, SP, 1986.
Lives and works between Belo Horizonte (MG) and Salvador (BA).
In his artistic practice, RG usually uses two sources to construct his works: one documentary and the other affective, generally through the use of documents collected from institutional or personal archives associated with narratives that may involve him or an alter ego. The interaction between these territorialities results in works that almost always approach fiction, or a tense notion of fictionality.
Affective and sexual relationships and their political implications, the forms of representation of love in literature and the arts, and issues of racial identity have been his current areas of interest. These researches usually unfold in workshops, installations, performative texts, publications, and objects.
He is currently studying for a Master's degree in Arts and Literature from UFMG (MG) and graduated in Visual Arts from Belas Artes de São Paulo (PROUNI scholarship holder – 2010). He has participated in exhibitions and festivals in cities in Brazil and other countries, such as Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Germany, Poland, Spain, and the Netherlands. He received, among other awards, the 1st Foco ArtRio Award, the Honor Award for Art and Heritage Merit/IPHAN, the Acquisition Award from the São Paulo Cultural Center, the Iberê Camargo Grant for a residency at the Künstlerhaus Bremen (Germany), the Pampulha Grant for a residency at the Pampulha Art Museum (MG) and, in 2018, he was awarded the Gasworks Artistic Residency in London.
